Dr. Lois Chiu

Dr. Lois Chiu

Director

“It is something special and rare when you find a charity that you truly believe in its mission and values. Ronald McDonald House Charities is that charity for me. My day job is providing medical care for babies who are born prematurely or sick. Due to Hawaii’s geography, Oahu is the only place in the State that can provide the type of specialized care these infants need. It is not uncommon for neighbor island families to have to be away from home for weeks and months at a time. RMHC helps by providing them a place they can call home. It is not just a place to sleep but also a house full of supportive and caring people.”

Lois Chiu, MD is the Chief of Neonatology at Kaiser Moanalua Hospital for the past 15 years. She earned her medical degree at Upstate University in Syracuse, New York and completed her Pediatrics and Neonatology training at Mount Sinai Medical Center and Columbia University Children’s Hospital of New York. She has been practicing for over 2 decades. Caring for sick babies and the families has been her passion and it is what drives her to serve as RMHC Board Chair.

Lois is originally from Hong Kong but spent most of her childhood in New York City. As a child of an immigrant family and a first-generation college student, she understands what it means to work hard and pursue dreams previously thought impossible. After completing her training to be a NICU physician, she moved to Hawaii in 2009 to be closer to her husband’s family. She currently lives in Honolulu with her husband and 2 teenage daughters.
